Hi, I’m Brian
I work at mirRoR, where we connect agile Rails developers and employers.
We started as Rails programmers ourselves(and are currently working on a few web and mobile apps). This background and network help us identify quality opportunities in the industry.
Like you, we hate recruiters. So when we started recruiting for our partners we decided to do things differently:
- No hidden opportunities. It amazes us how many recruiters hide the identity of the employer from developers. Sure, the developer could circumvent the recruiter, but we know from experience that companies are so inundated with resumes for every opening that using a recruiter is often the best way to get a foot in the door.
- Our jobs are real. The firms under engagement with us are actively hiring. If not, wouldn’t we be wasting everyone’s time? Why do recruiters fish for resumes with non-existent jobs? Not only is this dishonest, but we can’t imagine it ever ends well.
- We can be as involved or uninvolved as you want. Some developers prefer we do the majority of communication with the employer, scheduling interviews, delivering code samples, and negotiating the salary. Others prefer we simply make an introduction to the right people and get out of the way. Either (or any in-between) can work. We all want the same thing.
- We may tell you what you don’t want to hear. While we hope to immediately find you your dream job, it doesn’t always work out that way. Since we’ve had the privilege of placing hundreds of Rails developers at exciting ventures over the last few years we’re confident we know what employers are looking for. So if you’re too junior, or your code doesn’t check out, or you’re not a cultural fit, we’re going to tell you. The good news, is you’ll know why you didn’t get the job, and, most likely, will have something to improve on for next time. I’d enjoy briefly chatting with you about where you are in your Rails career, and what you’re thinking about for next steps. Even if you’re not currently looking, I’d be happy to share what we’re seeing in the market for opportunities and compensation so that you’ll be able to adjust your goals and efforts moving forward.
