Help build the Firefox of Media Players

Who we are:
Songbird, http://www.songbirdnest.com

Pioneers of the Inevitable, Inc. is a top-tier venture-funded San Francisco Internet/digital media start-up that develops and nurtures Songbird, a mash-up of a desktop media player and a Web browser. Digital media cool hunters, developers, service providers and device makers are adopting Songbird because it connects the music and video from any Internet service to a user's desktop library and devices. Songbird's final 1.0 release promises a burgeoning "Media Web" of accessible, interoperable media stores, subscription services and social networks.

Digital media pundits and developers are already chirping about Songbird's 500k+ installs, recognition in BoingBoing, TechCrunch, Slashdot, Digg and volunteer translations to 40+ languages. Like Firefox, Songbird is Mozilla-based desktop software, cross-platform, open source, supports extensions and even enables Internet services to invoke media player and media device features from a Web page.

Songbird's team is a successful clutch of developers, entrepreneurs and executives, most recently leading digital media strategy at Yahoo!, Nullsoft (Winamp), AOL, Netscape and Philips. The company is financed by Sequoia Capital, the original investors of Intel, Apple, Yahoo!, Google and YouTube.

"Songbird promises to be the Firefox of media players."

Brian Mariani, Ruby on Rails RecruiterHi, I’m Brian

I work at mirRoR, where we connect agile Rails developers and employers.

We started as Rails programmers ourselves (and are currently working on a few social, facebook, and iPhone apps). This background and network help us identify quality opportunities in the industry.

That’s especially important today. While many venture-backed web 2.0 startups are cutting costs amidst this economic climate, we are working with a number of companies that are self-sufficient, cash-positive, and well capitalized for the long-term.

I’d be eager to briefly discuss where you are in the process and see if there is a potential fit, either for the opportunities listed here, or those posted elsewhere.

Let’s chat!
